Karl J Mendonca lived by the sea in Bombay for 25 years before moving to New York to begin a graduate program in Media Studies at The New School in 2005. His research and work as a new media artist involves participatory art and the use of situated or ubiquitious technology to explore how place is collectively defined, used and transformed. Karl is also interested in comunity based modes of media production and distribution and is presently researching micro-cinemas in India. He is curating a screening series of experimental films in Delhi and Bombay in early 2010.Karl’s work has shown at a number of galleries and film festivals including the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, The Queens Museum of Art, the Oxford Film Festival, Stuttgart Filmwinter 2010, Jersey City Museum, Pure Project, Monkeytown (NY), and Experimenta (India).
Karl is presently an adjunct faculty member at The New School where he teaches hybrid courses on media theory and production.
